Overview
Redpoint HQ supports Code 39 barcoded cards for both membership check-in and physical gift cards. This knowledge base article details how to order, number, and use these cards effectively in your facility.
Membership Cards
Barcode Requirements
Barcode type: Code 39
Card numbering: Incremental (e.g., 1001, 1002, 1003, etc.)
Starting range: We recommend starting your first batch at 1,000 and numbering upward.
Any Code 39 barcode card or key tag will work for scanning into Redpoint.
Recommended Format
If you have multiple locations, card numbers must remain unique across the org. Use a unique identifier per facility.
Examples:
Standalone gym:
12345ABC-
Multi-gym setup:
Gym A:
5678GYMA-
Gym B:
5678GYMBAll card numbers must be unique across all locations. No two customers at any location in the organization can share the same card number.
Card Style
For membership cards, we recommend keychain tags. These are compact, durable, and convenient since members often carry their keys with them.
You can order cards or tags in bulk from online vendors or local print suppliers. Be sure to specify Code 39 barcodes when ordering.
Check-In Options
Membership cards are optional in Redpoint HQ, as staff can always check in members by searching for their last name instead of scanning a card. We also offer the ability for unique QR codes to populate for users to scan in via their mobile phones.
Gift Cards
Physical gift cards can be issued and redeemed directly in the Front Desk module and in the online cart if enabled using barcoded cards.
Ordering Gift Cards
Must be ordered from an outside vendor.
Cards must use a Code 39 barcode and be incrementally numbered.
Prefix your card numbers with a unique identifier for your gym to prevent overlap with other batches or locations.
Redpoint now recommends using unique, non-sequential gift card codes whenever issuing physical gift cards.
Sequential barcode numbering can create a security risk because customers may be able to guess valid gift card numbers and potentially redeem balances belonging to other customers.
To help prevent this, gift cards using codes that are not generated by Redpoint are now disabled for online purchases by default.
If your facility uses physical gift cards with sufficiently random, non-guessable codes (for example, codes that are not sequentially numbered), you may re-enable online redemption for those cards.
To enable this feature:
- Navigate to Manage > Organization & Facility Settings > Storefront Settings - Organization > General
- Enable the toggle:
- Allow Custom Gift Card To Be Used Online
- Enter an acceptance date for eligible gift cards
The acceptance date determines which gift cards can be redeemed online:
- Enter a future or recent transition date if you previously used sequential or predictable numbering and are moving to random codes
- Only gift cards issued after the selected date will be accepted online
- If you wish to allow all custom gift card codes online regardless of issue date, enter:
2000-01-01
We strongly recommend using randomized gift card codes to help protect against unauthorized redemption attempts.
Redpoint HQ does not support magnetic stripe gift cards — only barcoded gift cards are compatible.
Required Hardware
Gift card scanning uses the same keyboard-emulating barcode reader as your membership cards. We recommend the Honeywell Scanner Genesis 7580G.
