DNS Entries for Redpoint

Overview

Redpoint will provide you with 2 sets of DNS records to add to your domain in order to:

  1. to configure your portal url (after you determine what url you want to us - ie, portal.mygym.com)
  2. so Redpoint can send as your company email for the ticket and email notification system.

DNS Record Types

Before making changes, it's helpful to understand the DNS record types you’ll be working with:

  • CNAME (Canonical Name): This type of record maps an alias domain name to a true domain. It’s commonly used to point a subdomain (e.g., email.yourgym.com) to a service provider's domain (e.g., portal.climbing-gym.com).
  • DomainKeys / DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail): These are TXT records used for email authentication. They verify that the emails sent from your domain are legitimate and not spoofed. You will receive a long string of text to place in a TXT record at a specific subdomain.

Adding the Required DNS Entries

You will receive the specific DNS records to add from Redpoint.

To complete this task, you will need to log in to your DNS hosting provider (often your domain registrar, like GoDaddy, Namecheap, Cloudflare, etc.). Once logged in, find the area where you can manage DNS records or DNS zone files.

This section is often called "DNS Management" or "Advanced DNS."

Please follow these guidelines:

For CNAME Records

  • Host/Name: Typically looks like a long list of characters ending with ._domainkey
  • Value/Points to: Provided destination ends with .dkim.amazonses.com.
  • Type: CNAME

Ensure that each entry is added exactly as provided. Typos or misplaced characters can prevent proper validation.

TTL (Time To Live)

TTL (Time To Live) tells servers how long to cache the information before checking for updates. After updating your DNS records, changes may take anywhere from 4 to 24 hours to fully propagate across the internet, depending on the TTL setting. Plan ahead and allow sufficient time before expecting records to be recognized globally.

Confirm Portal URL is Working

After adding the DNS records provided by Redpoint, we will finalize the connection and confirm it is working.

You can confirm your portal url has been updated by checking:

  • Build > Storefronts
  • Expand a storefront to view the url
  • url should reflect your portal (the standard www.gymname.rphq.com should no longer show here and instead it should show your portal
